My recent research concerns phonotactics and language acquisition. In phonotactics I proposed a model of Net Auditory Distance (NAD) to measure the ‘goodness’ of consonant clusters across languages. In language acquisition I proposed, together with a colleague, a new theory we called the Natural Growth Theory of Acquisition, informed by natural linguistics and complex systems. In this lecture I will report on these two areas of research. I will ask the participating students to write a report (1000 words) on one of the areas.
