The course focuses on some selected issues concerning the United Kingdom
and the United States of America such as geography, structure of
society, education, religion, and media, etc. Other discussed topics
include some elements of small ”c” culture of those countries such as
holidays, customs, leisure time, patterns of behavior, and stereotypes.
Particular subjects are presented from both contemporary and historical
perspective. Also, the current issues, their significance and context
are discussed on the basis of every week news reports and article
reading and discussion. Besides, the concept of culture, identity, race
and ethnic groups are introduced and applied to analyze both societies,
with a focus on multiculturalism and globalization. The subjects for
discussions are also derived from students presentations, movie
extracts, YouTube movies, cultural texts such and newspaper articles.
