It is a one-semester course designed to survey the main trends and ideas in popular American literature and culture in the wider historical context. The course will consist of reading matter (to be
read at home before each class), in-class discussion, some in-class reading,
and media viewing. Grading will be based on class participation and a short
final test or an optional essay.
