BA seminar: Reverse engineering translations - zooming in on translation product and process

(dr Marta Kajzer - Wietrzny)

The course introduces the students to the two dynamically developing strands of Translation Studies: product and process-oriented approach. In the first semester, starting with an introduction to Translation Studies, it focuses, in particular, on empirical investigations using corpus-linguistics methods and key-logging. The students will first learn how corpora are used to investigate recurring patterns in translation such as simplification, explicitation etc. This will be followed by a discussion of studies reporting on insights from process-oriented methods such as Think-Aloud-Protocols, key-logging end eye-tracking.
