The aim of the course is to give you an overview of English phonetics and English phonology. This is a theoretical course in a branch of linguistics. The topics include, but are not limited to: Introduction to linguistics; Phonetic transcription; Articulatory phonetics; Consonants and vowels of English (vs. Polish); Phoneme vs. allophone; Coarticulation; Weak forms; Connected-speech processes; Phonotactics of English (vs. Polish); English rhythm and word stress; Acoustic phonetics.
