This is an introductory course to the history of the English language for the general academic specialization. Students will be familiarized with the most important phenomena, concepts and socio-historical concepts that have shaped English throughout centuries and will be exposed to a number of original historical texts. They will also learn about the linguistic background of English that will help them contextualise the language in a broader socio-cultural perspective.
