The main aim of the course is to gain the ability to apply effectively for research grants, the course will introduce the wider context in which the candidate should place his/her own research and will provide the students with the practical knowledge about existing funding possibilities and will enable to understand the evaluation philosophy behind various programs; additionally it will also provide introduction into such important aspects of research planning as the problem of interdisciplinarity and both academic and non- academic impact of our own research.

Practical aims of the course include:

- gaining knowledge about the general framework of science policy and research funding with respect to humanities: current place of the SSH in European frameworks, situation in Poland

- gaining knowledge about various forms of research funding in Poland and in Europe (top-down vs. bottom up funding, statutory/block funding)

- gaining knowledge about various existing peer-review systems: esp. why and how should we evaluate research proposals and research outcomes, peer-review and the bias, writing and receiving reviews

- problem of the inter-, trans- and multidisciplinarity – in context of student’s own research

- academic and non-academic impact (publication strategies / knowledge transfer / outreach activities and public engagement – when, why, how).
